GOD, THIS ISN't FAIR!
JULY 6 | Discipleship Guide
Be Real Together:
Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DG, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DG share their story.
Read Together: JONAH 4 CSB
Jonah ends not in triumph but in tension. After the most effective sermon in history (chapter 3), Jonah is angry that God forgives the Ninevites. His anger reveals something deeper: we often want mercy for ourselves, but justice for others. Yet God’s love goes beyond what feels fair—and invites us into forgiveness, even when it’s costly.
The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or Discipleship Group.
How do you respond when God’s grace challenges your sense of justice?
Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your DG or for personal study.
- What Makes You Angry at God?
- Jonah was “furious” with God for showing mercy. Have you ever been angry with God for how He handled something? What did you learn through that experience?
- Jonah was “furious” with God for showing mercy. Have you ever been angry with God for how He handled something? What did you learn through that experience?
- The Danger of Resentment:
- Jonah sat outside the city, waiting for judgment that never came. How can resentment keep us from participating in what God is doing? What helps move us toward grace?
- God's Question to Jonah:
- God asks Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry?” How might God be asking you a similar question today—and how would you answer Him?
- Forgiveness Is a Choice, Not a Feeling:
- Pastor Kyle Veach said, “You’re never going to feel like forgiving.” What would it look like to choose forgiveness by faith this week, even if your emotions haven’t caught up?
- What’s in Your Cup?
- Kyle’s illustration: when life bumps you, what spills out is what’s already inside. What emotions or pain have been “spilling out” of you lately—and how might God want to heal or redirect them?
Pray Together:
Take time to pray with and for each other.
Suggested Prayer Prompts:

Next Steps:
- Write down the name of someone you need to forgive. Pray over that name every day.
- Read Matthew 18:21–35 and reflect on Jesus’ teaching on forgiveness.
- Ask God, “What is blocking the flow of grace in me?” and take one step to unclog it—through confession, counseling, or conversation.
