Is Real Peace Possible?
November 30 | Discipleship Guide
Be Real Together:
Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DG, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DG share their story.
Read Together: Isaiah 26:1–4 CSB
Isaiah spoke to a people surrounded by instability, fear, and political uncertainty—much like us today. Into that environment, God offered a promise: perfect peace (literally shalom shalom) for those whose minds are fixed on Him. This passage reminds us that peace is not the absence of problems, but the presence of God Himself. Real peace becomes possible because God is always seeking us, drawing near, and inviting us to trust Him as our everlasting rock.
The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or Discipleship Group.
Where in your life are you most in need of God’s peace right now—and what would it look like to fix your mind on Him in that place?
Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your DG or for personal study.
- Isaiah promises perfect peace to the one whose mind is “dependent on” or “fixed on” God. What does your mind naturally drift toward during quiet moments? Do you have any habits to help you fix your mind on God?
- Peace is not the absence of problems but the presence of God. How have you experienced God’s presence giving you peace even when circumstances didn’t change? What does your relationship with him look like right now? Are you spending time in His presence?
- Jesus calmed the storm outside the boat, but the disciples needed Him to calm the storm inside them. What “inner storms” does Jesus want to speak peace over in your life?
- Pastor Sean taught four disciplines that help foster peace: Scripture, prayer, training your thoughts, and caring for your body. Which discipline do you sense God inviting you to prioritize this week—and why?
Pray Together:
- Thank God that He is peace—not just a giver of peace.
- Confess any worries or anxious places you’ve been carrying alone.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to steady your mind, fix your thoughts on truth, and help you rest in God's presence.
- Pray for one another’s inner storms, asking Jesus to speak “Peace, be still” over each situation.
- Pray that our church would be a people marked by God’s peace in a restless world.
Next Steps:
Choose one way to posture your mind toward the peace God offers this week:
- Start your day with Scripture before checking your phone or the news.
- Pray breath prayers throughout the day (“You keep me in perfect peace,” “Abba, I belong to You,” “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me”).
- Identify one anxious thought and intentionally replace it with a biblical truth.
- Slow down your evenings by reducing screens 30 minutes before bed.
- Do one thing to care for your physical body—a walk, better sleep rhythms, hydration, or movement.
- Memorize Isaiah 26:3 and repeat it when anxiety rises.
