Hey there.

Children of God

March 15 | Discipleship Guide

Be Real Together:

Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together.
If you’re launching a new Group, trust and friendship take time to build. Take turns each week having someone share a bit of their story.
Paul reminds the Galatian believers of something they had begun to forget: their true identity in Christ. Through faith in Jesus—not through the law or religious performance—they have been redeemed from slavery and adopted into God’s family. In Christ they have been clothed with a new identity and are no longer defined by old divisions like Jew or Gentile. Because of Jesus’ work, believers are now children of God and heirs of His promises! Jesus paid the price, we didn't have to free ourselves. With His redemption, we don't just transition from slave to free, but from slave to child of God!

The One Question:
If you only have time for one question, ask this one.

This passage is written by Paul as a reminder to the Galatians of who they are in Christ. Why do you think believers so easily forget or struggle to live from their true identity in Jesus?

Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your Group or for personal reflection.

  1. In the first century, baptism was a very public way of declaring allegiance to Jesus. Why do you think public identification with Christ matters? What does it practically look like today to “clothe yourself with Christ”?
  2. Paul says Jesus both redeemed us and adopted us. What do those two ideas each reveal about what God has done for us?
  3. Galatians 4:6 says God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, enabling us to cry out “Abba, Father.” What does that reveal about the kind of relationship God desires with us?
  4. Where are you living more like a slave than a child?
  5. If you truly lived each day believing you are God’s child and an heir of His promises, what might change in the way you think, pray, or live?

Pray Together:

  • Thank God for redeeming you through Jesus and welcoming you into His family.
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to help you live from your identity as a child of God rather than striving to prove yourself.
  • Pray for deeper unity in the church as people who are “one in Christ.”
  • Ask God to help you trust Him as a loving Father who provides, leads, and cares for His children.

Next Steps:

  • Start each morning this week by reading Galatians 4:6–7 and thanking God that you belong to Him.
  • Memorize Galatians 3:26 or Galatians 4:7 as a reminder of who you are in Christ.
  • Write down three truths from this passage about your identity in Christ and place them somewhere you’ll see daily.
  • Spend five minutes each day this week praying to God specifically as Father.
  • If you haven’t been baptized, consider taking a step toward baptism as a public declaration of your faith in Jesus. Our next baptism opportunity is Easter Sunday! If you're interested, let us know here and plan to attend our baptism class on Sunday, March 29 at 10:15am.
