Walk By The Spirit
May 10 | Discipleship Guide
Be Real Together:
Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together.
If you’re launching a new Group, trust and friendship take time to build. Take turns each week having someone share a bit of their story.

Read Together: Galatians 5:13–26 CSB
In this passage, Paul reminds the Galatian believers that freedom in Christ is not freedom to live for ourselves, but freedom to walk by the Spirit and serve one another through love. Paul contrasts the works of the flesh with the fruit of the Spirit and shows that the kind of life we live reveals what is happening internally in our hearts. Rather than returning to striving, performance, or the law, followers of Jesus are invited into a Spirit-led life marked by love, obedience, transformation, and freedom. As we welcome the Spirit, attune ourselves to His voice, and keep in step with Him, our lives begin to produce the fruit that reflects Jesus.
The One Question:
If you only have time for one question, ask this one.
What would it look like for you to more intentionally “keep in step with the Spirit” in this season of your life?
Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your Group or for personal reflection.
- Paul says, “You were called to be free.” Based on this passage, what kind of freedom do you think Paul is talking about?
- Paul contrasts the “works of the flesh” with the “fruit of the Spirit.” What stands out to you about the difference between the two lists?
- The sermon emphasized that “the way you live your life exposes the reality of what is going on inside your heart.” Why do you think fruit is such an important indicator of spiritual health?
- Which fruit of the Spirit do you most long to see grow in your life right now? Why?
- The message described learning to hear from the Spirit like tuning an old radio dial. What do you think helps a person become more aware of God’s voice and presence?
- Where do you sense the Holy Spirit inviting you into greater obedience, trust, or attentiveness right now?
Pray Together:
- Thank God for the freedom found in Jesus and the gift of the Holy Spirit.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to make you more aware of His presence and voice in your daily life.
- Confess any areas where you’ve been following the desires of the flesh instead of walking in step with the Spirit.
- Pray for spiritual fruit to grow in your life and in your community.
- Ask God for courage to obey His leading in both small and significant ways.
Next Steps:
- Welcome the Spirit: Begin each morning this week with this simple prayer: “Come, Holy Spirit" and take time to listen.
- Do the small reps: Choose one simple spiritual discipline this week (prayer, Scripture, worship, solitude) and practice it consistently
- Tune your heart: Pay attention to moments where you sense conviction, prompting, peace, or encouragement from the Spirit.
- Walk it out: Identify one thing you know God has been nudging you toward and take a practical step of obedience this week.
- Examine the fruit: Reflect honestly on your life—which fruit of the Spirit is becoming more visible? Which needs cultivation?
- Serve someone in love: Since freedom leads to loving others, find a way to intentionally serve someone this week.
