Hey there.

Kids Team

“...Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 19:14 ESV)

Our Team Mission:
Create a loving, fun and safe environment so kids can take steps towards Jesus.

Sunday Serve Times

9am Volunteers: Please arrive by 8:30am to participate in the All-Teams Rally in the Commons!
Your Sunday Lead will make sure you have everything you need, give reminders if necessary, and you will head to classes immediately following the meeting.
10:45am Volunteers: Please arrive no later than 10:30am to your scheduled class to relieve the 9am volunteers.
Your Sunday Lead will check in with each class to make sure you have everything you need!

Unable to serve?

If you find that you are unable to serve a date you're scheduled (whether sick or scheduling conflict), please do the following:

  1. Step 1: Decline your position in Planning Center Services. Please include a note about why you are unable to serve that scheduled date. Our Scheduling Team will reach out to you if you need to find coverage.
  2. Step 2: Find coverage for your class using the #kidsteam Slack channel. Be sure to include: the date + service time you need coverage, the class & role. Suggestion: asking and being able to switch dates with a volunteer for your specific class/time rather than just asking them to cover you usually works the best and generally helps all volunteers.
  3. Step 3: Communicate the change. When you have coverage, head to Planning Center Services and click on "Email My Leader" at the top right of the page. Please include the name of the volunteer covering/switching with you, the date, or let us know if you were unable to find coverage.

Reminder: Even if you aren't scheduled as the lead, please be aware of your lesson of the day and be prepared to lead an activity/game.
AUGUST CURRICULUM OVERVIEW:
From the Northern Lights to the Great Barrier Reef, our world is full of so many incredible wonders! In this 4-week series, we’ll explore the natural wonders of the world while learning from the book of Psalms about how all of God’s creation is evidence of how wonderful our Creator is! Each week, we’ll invite kids to worship because of all the “wonder-full” things God has done by putting their hope in God, asking for God’s help, remembering what God has done, and living for God!

BIG IDEAS & BIBLE STORIES
August 9: We can worship by putting our hope in God. (Psalms 33:12–22)
August 16: We can worship by asking for God’s help. (Psalms 80:8–19)
August 23: We can worship by remembering what God has done. (Psalms 103:1–8)
August 30: We can worship by living for God. (Psalms 112)

Slack Etiquette

Slack is a messaging tool/workspace our staff and core volunteers use. You can use the Slack app on your phone or on your desktop. Here's some helpful info and etiquette for the platform:
Channels: Slack organizes conversations with teams/groups of people into dedicated spaces called channels. Here's the different channels you'll have access to and what their purpose is:
  • Kids' Team related channels (private to kids' team only):
    • #kidsteam: a place for all information relevant to the kids' team as a whole (such as blockout date reminders, upcoming training or updates), including kids' team student volunteer parents who don't serve on the kids' team themselves.
    • #kids_thissunday_9am and #kids_thissunday_1045: these channels will replace the text messages volunteers were receiving leading up to a Sunday. All pertinent information for volunteers serving on Sunday will be included here. This is where volunteers will send needs to their Sunday Lead, a child who needs to use the restroom or get a diaper change, etc. Members in this channel will change so that it will include only the volunteers serving on that particular Sunday.
    •  #kidssundayleadsteam: pertinent information for Sunday Leads only.
  • Church-wide channels:
    • #prayer: a place to share personal prayer requests with everyone that's on Slack as well as requests that you've been given permission to share more broadly (i.e. if someone you're praying with asks to have as many people from our team praying as possible)
    • #general: this is used for church-wide announcements only (used by the staff to send announcements relevant to everyone)
    • #mission: opportunities to serve or give outside of Bright City Church
    • #miscellaneous: random questions (like if you need a house sitter or you're trying to give away some furniture)
    • #encouraging: place to share a story of God's goodness
  • Other Notes:
    • Slack is not used by every volunteer team, but there are specific teams we've found it's extremely helpful to have ongoing connection with through the week with
    • If you need to send a direct message to your Kids' Team (Holly and/or Megan), there is that capability as well - you can also email us.
    • You can customize when you receive notifications (i.e. you can set it up to only notify you between 8am and 8pm)
    • Note for student volunteer families: Slack uses email (not phone numbers), to create accounts. If you want your student volunteer to have their own account on Slack, they will need their own email and your signed permission to add them. Otherwise, we will add the parent(s) who was receiving the information before.

Need to Take a Break from serving?

It happens to all of us - seasons change, life gets busy, and we need to prioritize other things or serve elsewhere. Please use the button below to request to offboard from the Kids' team - whether permanently or just for a season.
