Hey there.

WHAT A CHURCH!

June 1 | Discipleship Guide

Be Real Together:

Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DG, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DG share their story.

Read Together: Acts 2:42–47 CSB

After the events of Pentecost, we get a snapshot of the early church—and it’s marked by devotion, unity, generosity, and spiritual power. This isn’t a how-to manual for church growth, but a vivid picture of what happens when God’s people commit to the right things. These believers didn’t have much—but they had each other, they had the Spirit, and that was enough for God to do something powerful through them.

The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or Discipleship Group.

What do your habits and priorities say you are most devoted to—and how might God be inviting you to shift that?

Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your DG or for personal study.

  1. Devoted to the Word:
    • How does your current rhythm reflect devotion to Scripture? What would it look like to grow in this area—not just hearing the Word, but responding to it?
  2. Devoted to One Another:
    • Fellowship means participating, not just being present. How are you actively investing in others in the church—and how might you step further into that kind of community?
  3. Devoted to the Gospel:
    • Communion was central in this passage—a reminder of the Gospel’s power. How can you grow in speaking the good news into everyday moments, both for yourself and others?
  4. Devoted to Prayer:
    • What does your prayer life say about your sense of dependence on God? How can your Group grow in the practice of praying together, not just for needs but for vision and mission?
  5. Displaying the Character of Christ:
    • Awe, unity, and generosity marked this church. Which of these feels most lacking in your life or Group right now—and how could you begin pursuing that character?

Pray Together:

Take time to pray with and for each other.

Suggested Prayer Prompts:
  • Praise God for His faithfulness to the Church, then and now.
  • Confess where devotion has slipped into apathy or isolation.
  • Ask for fresh hunger for His Word, deeper love for one another, and bold faith for what’s next.
  • Pray that Bright City would be known for love, joy, unity, and witness.

Next Steps:

Pick one of the four devotions from Acts 2:42 (teaching, fellowship, communion, prayer) and commit to taking one concrete step this week to grow in that area.
  • Start a Bible reading plan.
  • Invite someone to coffee.
  • Share what communion means to you.
  • Set a daily reminder to pray.
Then share with your Group what you chose—and how you’re seeing God move through it.
