Hey there.

Running Into Mercy

June 15 | Discipleship Guide

Be Real Together:

Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DG, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DG share their story.

Read Together: Jonah 1 CSB

Jonah is called by God to deliver a message to Nineveh—a brutal, violent city. Instead, he runs in the opposite direction. But God doesn’t give up on Jonah. Even in his rebellion, God's mercy pursues him. This story reminds us that the call of God may stretch us, but His mercy always meets us—even when we run.

The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or Discipleship Group.

Where in your life are you tempted to run from God’s call—and how might His mercy be meeting you there?

Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your DG or for personal study.

  1. God Still Calls:
    • What does Jonah’s calling teach you about the kinds of people and places God cares about? Where might God be calling you outside your comfort zone?
  2. How You Respond Matters:
    • Jonah ran—and his disobedience led to chaos for others. Have you seen the ripple effects of obedience or disobedience in your life? How is God inviting you to listen and obey today?
  3. God’s Mercy Still Pursues:
    • God didn’t abandon Jonah, even in rebellion. Where do you see God’s mercy pursuing you—or someone else in your life—right now?
  4. Our Actions Impact Others:
    • Jonah’s story affected the sailors around him. How are your decisions—good or bad—impacting the people closest to you? What legacy are you shaping through everyday faithfulness?
  5. God’s Plan Is Bigger Than You Can See:
    • Jonah thought it was over, but God appointed a fish—not as punishment, but as rescue. How might God be working in ways you don’t yet understand?

Pray Together:

Take time to pray with and for each other.

Suggested Prayer Prompts:
  • Thank God for His unrelenting mercy.
  • Confess where you've been tempted to run or resist His call.
  • Pray for courage to step into obedience—even when it’s hard.
  • Ask God to use your life to bless and influence those around you.

Next Steps:

This week, reflect on one area where God is calling you to take a step of obedience—big or small.
  • Share that step with someone in your group.
  • Ask for accountability and encouragement as you follow through.
  • If you're in a “storm,” pause to ask: how might God be getting my attention—not to pay me back, but to bring me back?
