Very Finessed Kingdom
AUGUST 10 | Discipleship Guide
Be Real Together:
Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DG, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DG share their story.
Read Together: Matthew 4:17, 23-25 ESV
These verses mark the launch of Jesus’ public ministry — a hinge moment in human history. His first proclamation was a simple but history-shifting announcement: “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.” The Kingdom of God is not just a distant hope; it is God’s reign breaking into our world through Jesus — His rule, His presence, His healing, His restoration. In this message, Pastor Zach walked us through three ways Jesus calls us to respond to the Kingdom: Awaken to its reality, Align our lives under His reign through joyful repentance, and Advance His work by carrying His presence and power into the world.
The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or Discipleship Group.
Where is Jesus inviting you to “awaken, align, or advance” in your life with Him right now?
Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your DG or for personal study.
- Awaken – What comes to mind when you hear the phrase “the Kingdom of God”? How does this passage expand or challenge your understanding?
- Align – Repentance is often seen as shame-based, but Jesus frames it as a joyful turning toward life under His rule. How would it change your view of repentance to see it as a homecoming instead of a punishment?
- Advance – Matthew says Jesus’ Kingdom work brought teaching, healing, and freedom. Where have you seen glimpses of the Kingdom “breaking in” — either in your life or in others’?
- Participation – What’s one practical way you can bring the reign of Jesus into your home, workplace, school, or community this week?
Pray Together:
Spend time thanking God that His Kingdom is here and is still advancing. Ask Him to awaken your heart to His reign, align your life under His rule, and empower you to advance His Kingdom where you live, work, and play. Pray for specific people and situations that need the healing, freedom, and hope only Jesus can bring.
