When Ordinary Becomes Extraordinary
AUGUST 24 | Discipleship Guide
Be Real Together:
Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DG, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DG share their story.
Read Together: Luke 22:14–23, 31–34 CSB
At the Last Supper, Jesus shared bread and wine with His disciples, knowing betrayal was near. He also warned Peter that his faith would be tested, but encouraged him that failure would not define his future. Peter’s story reminds us that God uses imperfect people to accomplish His perfect plan. Our shortcomings don’t disqualify us—in Christ, they can become places where His grace shines brightest.
The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or Discipleship Group.
Share about a time when you felt unqualified or “too ordinary” to be used by God. How did He surprise you in that season?
Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your DG or for personal study.
- Imperfect People, Perfect Plan
- We often see ourselves through failure, but Jesus sees our potential. What failure or shortcoming are you tempted to let define you? How does Jesus’ view of you reshape that?
- Available, Not Talented
- Philippians 2:13 reminds us it’s God who works in us. How do you practice being available to Him in your daily life?
- Faith Under Pressure
- Like Peter or John the Baptist, faith is tested in hard seasons. What season of testing have you walked through, and how did God prove Himself faithful?
- Feeding His Sheep
- In John 21, Jesus restored Peter by calling him to “feed my sheep.” Who in your life might Jesus be asking you to encourage, disciple, or care for this week?
Pray Together:
- Thank God that He uses ordinary, imperfect people for His extraordinary purposes.
- Confess ways you’ve doubted your usefulness to Him.
- Ask for courage to be available and faithful in the small things.
- Pray for each other to remain steadfast in seasons of testing.
