Doing what only you CAN DO
September 7 | Discipleship Guide
Be Real Together:
Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DG, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DG share their story.
Read Together: Matthew 25:14-30 CSB
Jesus tells the parable of the talents to illustrate what stewardship looks like in God’s kingdom. Each servant was entrusted with resources “according to their ability.” Two invested wisely and were rewarded with greater responsibility and their master’s joy. The third buried his talent out of fear and lost everything. The parable reminds us that what matters most is not how much we’ve been given, but how we use what God has entrusted to us. Our view of God shapes how we steward our lives—if we see Him as loving and generous, we’ll respond with faith, risk, and joy.
The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or Discipleship Group.
When you were younger, what was the first responsibility someone trusted you with (a pet, a job, babysitting, etc.)? How did it feel to be entrusted with something important?
Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your DG or for personal study.
- Entrusted Talents
- What gifts, resources, or opportunities has God uniquely placed in your hands? How are you using them to serve Him and others?
- View of God
- The faithful servants trusted in their master’s goodness, while the fearful servant buried his talent. How does your view of God shape the way you approach risk, responsibility, and stewardship?
- Only You Can Do It
- Pastor Sean reminded us that “only you can do what God is asking you to do.” What step of obedience or act of service might God be calling you to take right now?
- Trust and Reward
- The master rewarded the faithful servants with greater responsibility and joy. Where have you experienced joy and growth when you’ve faithfully stewarded what God gave you?
Pray Together:
- Thank God for the unique gifts, resources, and opportunities He has entrusted to each of you.
- Confess areas where fear, excuses, or comparison have kept you from using what God has given.
- Ask the Holy Spirit for courage to take risks in faith and to see God’s generosity clearly.
- Pray that Bright City would be full of people joyfully investing their lives in God’s kingdom.
Next Steps:
- Groups: Pray about leading or joining a group this fall as a way to steward your home, time, and relationships.
- Giving: Take a step in financial stewardship—whether that means giving for the first time, giving consistently, or giving sacrificially.
- Serving: Join the “Serve for 6” initiative and discover how God might use your time and talents on Sundays.
