OUr Generous God
November 2 | Discipleship Guide
Be Real Together:
Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DG, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DG share their story.
Read Together: matthew 20:1-16 CSB
In this parable, Jesus describes the Kingdom of Heaven as a landowner who hires workers throughout the day and pays them all the same wage. His story flips human expectations about fairness, reward, and grace. Following Jesus means reorienting our lives and embracing the generosity of God—one that gives freely, not based on merit, but out of His character. God is always searching, always inviting, and always generous—reminding us that in His Kingdom, the last will be first and the first will be last.
The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or Discipleship Group.
What does this parable teach us about what God is like?
Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your DG or for personal study.
- What part of this parable stood out or surprised you the most?
- The early workers grumbled when others received the same reward. How would you have felt if you were one of the workers hired early in the day? When are you most tempted to compare your story to someone else’s—and what helps you shift back to gratitude?
- The landowner kept going out all day to invite more workers. What does this reveal about God’s heart toward those still “waiting in the marketplace”?
- Jesus’ story challenges our sense of fairness. How does understanding God’s grace reshape the way you view success, reward, or spiritual maturity?
- Jesus says, “The last will be first, and the first will be last.” What do you think He means by that?
- Who in your life might need to experience God’s generosity through you this week?
Pray Together:
- Thank God for His endless generosity and grace.
- Confess moments when envy or comparison have clouded your view of His goodness.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to make you aware of God’s blessings daily.
- Pray for open hearts to extend grace and generosity to others as God has done for you.
Next Steps:
Choose one way to live out God’s generosity this week:
- Write a prayer of thanks to God for His generosity towards you.
- Give generously—of time, finances, or presence—without expecting anything in return.
- Pray for someone in your life who hasn't yet accepted God's grace.
- Invite someone new into community—extend an open seat at your table or Group.
