Hey there.

GOOD AND GODLY GROWTH

November 9 | Discipleship Guide

Be Real Together:

Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DG, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DG share their story.

Read Together: Ephesians 4:14-16 CSB

Paul describes the church as a body, each part playing a vital role in helping the whole grow into maturity. Spiritual growth isn’t just about activity or attendance—it’s about becoming more like Jesus in truth, love, and service. Real growth happens when we’re grounded in God’s truth, speak that truth in love, and each person uses their gifts to build up the body. God’s goal isn’t simply for His church to get bigger, but for it to get stronger—for every believer to reflect Jesus more fully and help others do the same.

The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or Discipleship Group.

What does growing in spiritual maturity look like for you right now?

Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your DG or for personal study.

  1. What are some signs that someone is spiritually mature? What are some signs of spiritual immaturity?
  2. In verse 14, Paul warns against being “tossed by the waves and blown around by every wind of teaching.” What kinds of beliefs or cultural messages make it hard to stay grounded in truth?
  3. Why do you think Paul connects maturity to truth-telling and love? How can we hold both together in our relationships?
  4. How have you experienced someone “speaking the truth in love” to you—and what did it produce in your life?
  5. Paul says the church grows when “each part does its work.” What might that look like practically in our community?
  6. What keeps people from using their gifts or engaging in ministry? How can we help each other overcome that?
  7. When you think about the phrase “fitted and knit together,” what comes to mind about the kind of relationships God wants in His church?
  8. How might your life look different if you made spiritual growth your top priority this season?

Pray Together:

  • Thank God for how He has already been growing and shaping your faith.
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to help you stay grounded in truth, not tossed by cultural confusion.
  • Pray for courage to both speak and receive truth in love.
  • Ask God to show you how your unique gifts can strengthen and serve the church.
  • Pray that Bright City would grow in unity, maturity, and love as every part plays its role.

Next Steps:

Choose one way to actively grow in godly maturity this week:
  • Spend intentional time in Scripture each day (start with Ephesians 4).
  • Ask someone you trust to help hold you accountable in an area of growth.
  • Take a step toward serving—join a team, use your gift, or meet a practical need.
  • Pray daily for our church to grow in unity and maturity, not just in size.
