The Bread Of Life

Be Real Together:
Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together.
If you’re launching a new Group, trust and friendship take time to build. Take turns each week having someone share a bit of their story.

Read Together: JOHN 6:22-35 CSB
In this message, we see Jesus respond to a crowd that was looking for another miracle or another temporary source of provision. But Jesus points them to something deeper: He Himself is the Bread of Life. Humanity was created for communion with God, yet ever since sin entered the world, we’ve been trying to satisfy eternal hunger with temporary things that never fully last. Jesus alone satisfies and sustains the soul because He is the eternal bread sent from heaven. But it’s not enough to simply know about Jesus or admire Him from a distance—we must actually “feed” on Him daily by trusting Him, abiding in Him, and staying connected to His presence.
The One Question:
If you only have time for one question, ask this one.
What are you most tempted to look to for satisfaction or sustenance instead of Jesus?
Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your Group or for personal reflection.
- What stands out to you from this passage?
- What do you notice about the crowd's response to Jesus?
- Pastor Sean said, “It's impossible to satisfy an eternal soul with temporary bread.” What are some forms of “temporary bread” people commonly turn to today?
- Jesus says, “I am the bread of life.” What do you think He’s communicating through that metaphor?
- Pastor Sean emphasized that seeing isn’t enough, knowing isn’t enough, quoting verses isn’t enough—you must eat to live. What do you think it practically means to “feed on Jesus” daily?
- Jesus promises that those who come to Him will never truly hunger or thirst again. How have you personally experienced Jesus satisfying or sustaining you?
- What would it look like for you to approach this next season with a greater “appetite” for Jesus?
Pray Together:
- Thank Jesus that He is the Bread of Life who satisfies and sustains your soul.
- Confess any ways you’ve been looking to temporary things for fulfillment instead of Him.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to deepen your hunger for God.
- Ask God to help you stay rooted and nourished in Him daily.
- Ask God to help your Group grow in communion and dependence on Jesus.
Next Steps:
- Feed daily: Set aside intentional time each day this week to be with Jesus through prayer and Scripture—even if it’s brief.
- Notice your “bread”: Pay attention to what you instinctively run to for comfort, escape, validation, or satisfaction.
- Build spiritual rhythms: Choose one practical habit this summer that will help keep you spiritually nourished (church attendance, prayer walks, Scripture reading, community, worship, etc.).
- Pray throughout your day: Practice short prayers of dependence like, “Jesus, sustain me.”
- Come hungry: Before church, group, or personal devotion time, pause and ask God to increase your spiritual appetite.
- Practice gratitude: Pause throughout your day to thank God for specific blessings and reminders of His goodness.
